Alec Bohm finally has his first home run. The Philadelphia Phillies third baseman launched his first of the 2025 season with a two-run, opposite-field shot against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
Despite a slow start at the plate, Bohm remains confident in his approach and feels like he is headed in the right direction. Here is what he had to say on his performance so far:
“I feel like I’ve been doing all the right things,” Bohm told MLB.com. “Obviously, it’s really easy to get caught up just looking at the scoreboard and saying, ‘Oh, he’s having a bad year.’ The numbers are the numbers, and they don’t necessarily define who we are each day. I feel like I’ve been having good at-bats and hitting the ball hard and doing all the things I’m supposed to be doing. I think it’s all coming together.”
After earning his first all-star nod last summer, this felt like an opportune time to build on that success and establish himself as a premier third baseman.
But, the 28-year-old has been the subject of trade rumors given his rough sledding (.237 batting average, .586 OPS, 64 OPS+, seven extra base hits, 24 strikeouts to four walks) and worse-than-expected defense. A hot stretch could alleviate any internal or external concerns.

Hopefully, Bohm is right. Baseball is a streaky sport, and he was in dire need of a confidence boost. He has only hit 60 home runs over his 632 career games, and this latest one could be the key to turning around his campaign.
It is encouraging that he remains steadfast in his approach and has not revealed any doubts.
Bohm’s metrics show no sign of a decline, and perhaps he has received unfair criticism from fans. Remember, this is a former third overall pick, and it may be his fifth full Major League season, but players always experience ups and downs.
If Bohm can tap into his 2022-24 self (.278 batting average, .752 OPS, 108 OPS+), this Phillies lineup will become even deeper and more fearsome.
