Maresca Defends Palmer After Penalty Miss Against Leicester

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca has defended Cole Palmer in a post match conference this evening, after the Englishman’s penalty miss in the game against Leicester City.

Chelsea went into the game at Stamford Bridge this afternoon seeking a win to re-enter the top 4 of the English Premier League table.

In the 19th minute of the game, referee Tim Robinson awarded a penalty to the host, after Jadon Sancho was brought down by Leicester City defender, Victor Kristiansen.

Cole Palmer’s penalty was stopped out by Mads Hermansen ending the 22-year-old’s 100% penalty recording since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

Maresca via BBC stated: “Cole [Palmer] didn’t feel well during the night. People need to understand the effort he made to be there. He is a top player. Everything is normal now.”

Chelsea went on to win the game by a goal to nil courtesy of Marc Cucurella’s strike. Maresca also expressed his satisfaction with his team and how they played: “I was so happy at the end because the players gave everything and were unbelievable. Between first and second halves, we created enough to win the game.”

The blues will travel to the Emirates Stadium next weekend to face Arsenal in their next Premier League clash, but first will host FC Kobenhavn this Thursday in the second leg of the UEFA Conference League Round of 16.
