MUST READ: Aaron Rodgers’ Saga at it’s Pick as it involves Top Rival
Steelers Could Face Jets in Week 1 if They Sign Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers remains unsigned heading into the 2025 NFL season, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are still exploring their quarterback options. If the four-time MVP were to join the Steelers, he could face his former team, the New York Jets, in a high-stakes Week 1 matchup.
According to reports from Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team and content creator Matt O’Leary, the Jets are scheduled to open the season at home against the Steelers. This game could potentially feature both Rodgers and Jets quarterback Justin Fields facing their former teams.
Rodgers’ time with the Jets was underwhelming. He tore his Achilles in his debut and missed the entire 2023 season. Although he returned in 2024 and posted solid stats—3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and a 63% completion rate—the team struggled, finishing 5-12. The Jets later fired head coach Robert Saleh and released Rodgers at the end of the season.
The Steelers currently have Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard on their roster but are rumored to be seeking a veteran quarterback. Rodgers is one of the top possibilities, though there has also been speculation about a potential trade for Falcons QB Kirk Cousins or signing another free agent.
If Rodgers does sign with Pittsburgh, the opening game would not only mark a significant storyline for both franchises but could also serve as a personal statement for the veteran QB
