Future BYU Runner Jane Hedengren Breaks Another National Record
In yet another dazzling display of talent and determination, high school running sensation Jane Hedengren has once again etched her name into the record books. The future BYU Cougar shattered a national high school record this week, adding to an already stellar resume and solidifying her place as one of the most promising young distance runners in the country.
Hedengren, a senior at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, stunned spectators and competitors alike by setting a new national record in the 1600 meters at the state track and field championships. Clocking in at a blistering 4:33.45, she surpassed the previous record by more than a second, drawing cheers from the crowd and immediate recognition from the national track and field community.
This latest achievement is not Hedengren’s first taste of national glory. Earlier in the season, she made headlines by setting a new national indoor mile record, and she has continued to dominate both indoor and outdoor competitions throughout the year. Her consistent performance, paired with her drive for excellence, has made her one of the most talked-about athletes in high school track.
“I’m just grateful to be able to compete and to push myself every time I step onto the track,” Hedengren said after her record-setting run. “My coaches, my teammates, and my family have all supported me so much, and I couldn’t do any of this without them.”
What makes her accomplishments even more impressive is the humility and focus with which she approaches her craft. Despite breaking records and attracting national media attention, Hedengren remains grounded and forward-thinking. She often speaks about using each race as a learning experience, constantly striving to improve her technique and mental approach.
Her coach, Mark Peterson, praised her work ethic and consistency. “Jane is not just a naturally gifted runner—she’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached. She shows up every day ready to push her limits, and that’s what separates her from the rest.”
Hedengren’s stellar high school career is about to take the next step as she heads to Brigham Young University this fall. BYU’s women’s track and field program, already a national powerhouse, is eager to welcome her into the fold. Head Coach Diljeet Taylor has expressed excitement about what Hedengren can bring to the program, both as an athlete and as a leader.
“She has an incredible upside,” Taylor said. “Jane has already proven she can compete at the highest level in high school, and I believe she’s only scratching the surface of what she can achieve in college and beyond.”
As she prepares to transition to collegiate competition, Hedengren remains focused on finishing her high school season strong. With more meets still ahead, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see just how far she can go.
If history is any indicator, Jane Hedengren is not finished rewriting the record books.
