After a brief hiatus, one of the region’s most beloved youth basketball experiences is making its grand return—bigger, better, and more popular than ever. The Montross Basketball Camp, founded by former UNC star and NBA veteran Eric Montross, is officially back this summer, and young hoopers across the state are wasting no time securing their spots.
Held at the historic Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, the Montross Basketball Camp has long been a rite of passage for aspiring players ages 8–18. Known for its perfect mix of skill development, fun competition, and life lessons, the camp draws kids from across the Southeast eager to learn the game from experienced coaches and special guests.
This year’s camp promises fresh updates and expanded sessions to meet growing demand. The week-long program will feature advanced drills, leadership workshops, and surprise appearances from former Tar Heel greats and current college standouts.
“Basketball is the hook, but building character is the goal,” Montross said in the camp’s relaunch announcement. “We’re here to teach these kids how to win on the court—and in life.”
Parents and campers alike say the camp’s reputation for combining elite instruction with a positive, supportive atmosphere makes it stand out in a crowded field of summer programs. Many of the camp’s alumni have gone on to play at the high school and college levels—and countless more have carried its lessons into everyday life.
This year’s camp is expected to sell out quickly, with registrations already pouring in within hours of the announcement. For kids dreaming of sharpening their crossover, nailing free throws, or just soaking up the Tar Heel tradition, Montross Basketball Camp is once again the place to be—proving that some legacies are just too strong to stay on the bench for long.
