Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has in a post match press conference fumed over VAR’s decision to overrule Tottenham’s equalizing goal against Chelsea last night.
Tottenham Midfielder, Pape Matar Sarr came from the bench last night and fired a thunderbolt into the Chelsea net but the Video Assistant Referee overruled the goal for a foul on Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo.
Sarr hit Caicedo with a boot to the knee region, winning the ball in process before firing at wide range at the Chelsea’s goal leaving goalkeeper Robert Sanchez without a chance to save the ball.
The Video Assistant Referee called on the on field referee to check the goal on the monitor. A review process which lasted for six minutes ended with a no goal decision and a yellow card to Sarr.
Ange Postecoglou speaking on the incident in a post match interview said: “Who cares if it was a foul or not? There were so many incidents out there. What does it matter? What’s the point of having a referee then? Clear and obvious means you go to the screen, standing around for six minutes. Not me, because I’m very vocal on it, we all accept it.”
“It’s going to be refereed by AI soon. Like I said, we might as well dispense with the players at some point when some genius comes up with a game with no participants at some point. Referees aren’t refereeing.”
“I don’t like it, mate, I’ve never liked it, I don’t see how it’s benefitted our game, I don’t think anyone would have complained if they went with the referee’s decision because you get some good, you get some bad and you get on with it and the game finishes in 93 or 94 minutes and the game flows rather than us all sitting around waiting. I think that’s one thing that won’t get misinterpreted by me, I’m pretty consistent with my stance on it.”
Tottenham currently sit 14th in the Premier League table with eight games left until the end of this season.
