Netflix Releases “The Underdog,” a Highly Anticipated Documentary About Former Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Bill Cowher — Slated for Release on May 15
Netflix is set to release “The Underdog,” an inspiring new documentary chronicling the life and career of legendary Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. Slated for release on May 15, the film promises a deep and emotional look into the Hall of Fame coach’s journey—from his working-class roots in Crafton, Pennsylvania, to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XL.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ava Thompson, “The Underdog” features never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews with former players, family members, and NFL insiders, and a raw look at Cowher’s leadership, resilience, and emotional battles both on and off the field. The documentary also highlights Cowher’s transition from coaching into broadcasting, and how he coped with personal loss, including the death of his wife Kaye in 2010.
“Bill Cowher is a symbol of grit, heart, and perseverance,” said Thompson. “This documentary is about more than football—it’s about the fight to prove yourself when the odds are against you.”
The film is part of Netflix’s expanding catalog of sports documentaries, following the success of series like Quarterback and Untold. Football fans and newcomers alike can expect a compelling story of passion, pain, and ultimate triumph
