The film is slated to debut globally on June 12, 2025, exclusively on the streaming platform.
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Ezra Edelman (O.J.: Made in America), The Underdog explores Polamalu’s remarkable journey—from his humble beginnings in Southern California and Samoa to becoming one of the most feared and respected defenders in NFL history.

Unlike previous sports documentaries, The Underdog offers a deeply personal look at Polamalu, a player known as much for his humility and quiet spirituality as for his electrifying play on the field. Through never-before-seen footage, personal interviews, and commentary from teammates, coaches, and family members, the film paints an emotional and inspirational portrait of a man who defied expectations at every turn.

The documentary features commentary from an all-star lineup, including Mike Tomlin, Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Ray Lewis, and Ed Reed, alongside Polamalu’s wife, Theodora, and members of the Samoan community who helped shape his worldview.
Fans can also expect in-depth footage of key moments from Polamalu’s career: his iconic interception against the Ravens in the 2008 AFC Championship, his leaping tackles over the line of scrimmage, and emotional scenes from his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction in 2020.
