BREAKING: Phillies Rock MLB World, Cut Ties With $10 Million Outfielder in Bold, Stunning Decision

The Philadelphia Phillies wanted to add some outfield reinforcements this past offseason and one move that they made was signing veteran outfielder Max Kepler to a one-year deal worth $10 million.

Kepler’s stint in Philadelphia hasn’t gotten off the best start. He’s appeared in nine games and is slashing .172/.333/.345 with one home run, one RBI, two doubles, and six runs scored. Hit bat hasn’t been hot, but he has walked seven times.

It’s a little early to be thinking about what subtractions the team could make this season, but FanSided’s Kevin Stephan floated him as a player who may not make it with the team past the month of May.

“This offseason, Max Kepler signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies to be the team’s left fielder after spending the first ten years of his career with the Minnesota Twins. As a Twin, Kepler was a tremendous source of power from the left side of the plate, with six seasons of 17+ home runs…

“Aside from his eighth inning blast, Max’s power has been non-existent. Through the team’s first nine games, Kepler has five hits in 28 at-bats with one home run and one RBI. If history is an indicator of future performance, Max’s bat should heat up, and while the team is winning games and at the top spot in the National League East, his slow start isn’t an issue. But if the team begins to slide and Kepler’s performance does not get any better, he may have a shorter stint in Philadelphia than expected.”

It’s a little too early to be giving up on a guy. It’s April 9th. It’s been such a small sample size that one or two big games in a row could completely shift the numbers. There’s no need to be thinking about subtractions yet
