Provo just got a huge dose of future star power. BYU Football landed one of its biggest commitments in recent memory with the announcement that Ryder Lyons, a 5-star quarterback and one of the top-ranked signal-callers in the nation, has pledged his future to the Cougars—turning down powerhouse Oregon in the process.
Lyons, who made his decision public via a live social media stream filled with suspense and thousands of eager fans watching, called BYU “the perfect fit” for his development, faith, and family.
“This is where I’m meant to be,” Lyons said, donning a BYU cap as cheers erupted behind him. “I wanted a place that felt like home, where I could grow as a player and as a person. BYU checked every box.”
Standing 6-foot-3 with a rocket arm and a natural feel for the game, Lyons has been on nearly every major program’s radar since his sophomore year. Oregon, USC, and even SEC heavyweights made late pushes, but BYU’s family atmosphere, faith-centered culture, and growing Big 12 profile ultimately sealed the deal.
Head coach Kalani Sitake and offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick played a huge role in winning over Lyons and his family, pitching an offense built to showcase his dual-threat talent and football IQ.
“Ryder is the type of leader you build a program around,” Sitake said after the news broke. “He’s got all the tools, but more importantly, he has the work ethic and character that fit exactly what we’re about here at BYU.”
