BYU’s AJ Dybantsa Officially Named to Team USA for FIBA U19 World Cup — Here’s When He’ll Suit Up

It’s official: AJ Dybantsa, BYU basketball’s rising star and one of the most exciting prospects in the nation, has been named to the Team USA roster for the 2024 FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup. The announcement solidifies Dybantsa’s status as a future star on both the college and international stages — and brings a surge of pride and attention to the Cougars program.

The tournament will be held in Debrecen, Hungary, from June 29 to July 7, and Team USA enters as one of the favorites to capture the gold. Dybantsa is expected to play a significant role, bringing length, versatility, and elite scoring to the American squad. At 6-foot-8 with guard-like skills, he’s a matchup nightmare — equally comfortable slashing to the rim or burying threes from deep.

For BYU fans, this is more than just an international appearance — it’s a statement. Dybantsa’s selection marks the first time a BYU player has earned a spot on Team USA’s U19 roster in over a decade, and it speaks volumes about the direction of the program under head coach Kevin Young.

“This is a huge honor for AJ and a proud moment for our program,” Coach Young said. “He’s earned every bit of it, and we’re excited to watch him represent the country and show what BYU basketball is all about on the global stage.”

Dybantsa and Team USA will begin group play on June 29, with their first matchup expected to be against Egypt. Games will be streamed internationally and through USA Basketball’s digital platforms.

From Provo to the world stage, AJ Dybantsa is ready — and Cougar Nation will be watching.
