Lexington native and former Kentucky Wildcat standout Dane Key has opened up about a pivotal moment in his football career—his decision to leave Kentucky and transfer to Nebraska for his senior year.
“It was just time for a change,” Key shared, echoing a clear-headed decision born from prayer, reflection, and a pursuit of new challenges. After posting a heartfelt message on social media, Key emphasized that the relationships and memories he built at Kentucky will “always hold a special place” in his heart .
Over three seasons in Lexington, Key grew into one of the Wildcats’ most reliable weapons. He hauled in 126 receptions for 1,870 yards and 14 touchdowns—ranked among Kentucky’s top receivers . With a memorable junior campaign of 47 catches and 715 receiving yards, he demonstrated consistency, leadership, and relentless work ethic .
