Real Madrid Confirm Ferland Mendy Muscle Injury

Real Madrid have confirmed that defender, Ferland Mendy will be out for a while after sustaining an injury in last night Champions League Round of 16 clash with Atletico de Madrid.

The 15 time winners secured their spot in the quarter finals of the competition through penalty shootout.

Englishman Conor Gallagher put the host ahead after just 27 seconds of action. The goal remained the only goal of the game, levelling the tie at 2-2 on aggregate.

Real Madrid announced in a club statement today that the left back sustained a muscle injury and expected to be out for the next 3 to 4 weeks.

The statement from the club read: “Following tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury in the biceps femoris of his left leg. Pending evolution.”

The Frenchman is expected to miss Los Blanco’s Laliga trip to Villarreal, and home game against Leganes on the 15th and 29th of March respectively.

He could also be unavailable for Madrid’s Copa del Rey second leg tie with Real Soceidad on the first day of April.

Real Madrid fans remain hopeful that the fullback will be available for the first leg their Quarter final clash with Arsenal on the 8th of April.
