UNC basketball forward now among the top 10 undecided in the transfer portal.

Where Will He Land? Uncertainty Swirls Around Ven-Allen Lubin’s Next Move

Ven-Allen Lubin’s future remains a mystery as college basketball’s offseason carousel spins.

Nearly three weeks after entering the transfer portal, what once seemed like a strong bet for the UNC forward to return to Chapel Hill has turned into a major question mark. At the time of his entry, the 6-foot-8, 230-pound junior made it clear he planned to return, stating he did so with the “full intent on returning to UNC.”

But things have changed.

Insider buzz has grown louder, suggesting that Lubin may be exploring more seriously than expected, with rival NC State even mentioned as a possible suitor. Now, the notion of a return to UNC feels more like a long shot than a lock.

Lubin, a Florida native who’s already had stints at Notre Dame and Vanderbilt before spending this past season with the Tar Heels, started over half his games and carved out a key rotational role. He averaged 8.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and nearly a block per game in under 20 minutes, showcasing his efficiency and versatility.

Ranked No. 144 overall in the portal by 247Sports, Lubin might not top the list, but among those still uncommitted, he’s risen to No. 9, signaling strong interest from high-level programs still shaping their rosters.

Whether it’s a surprise return to UNC, a shocking flip to a bitter rival, or a new chapter entirely, Lubin’s decision could be one of the most impactful remaining dominoes in this portal cycle.

Quick Contact with Newly Eligible Transfer Talent by UNC Basketball

The UNC basketball coaching staff might be eyeing Devan Cambridge as the final piece to complete their 2025–26 roster puzzle

On Thursday afternoon, Joe Tipton of On3 reported a major development: the NCAA has granted Texas Tech transfer Devan Cambridge a medical hardship waiver, officially giving him a rare seventh year of college eligibility. Just a few hours later, Tipton revealed that the Tar Heel coaches had already reached out—wasting no time in expressing interest.

Cambridge, a rugged 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward, has bounced back from injury setbacks that limited him to only 14 games over two seasons at Texas Tech. Before that, he showcased his talent with impactful runs at Auburn and Arizona State. Now fully healthy, the 24-year-old Nashville native is drawing attention from multiple programs, including Ohio State, Pitt, Arizona, Arizona State, Seton Hall, and Pepperdine. He’s slated to visit Pitt next week as the recruitment race heats up
