Virginia Tech forward Tobi Lawal finally returns to the huskies for the 2025-2026 season

Virginia Tech forward Tobi Lawal has officially announced his return to the Hokies for the 2025–26 season, opting to withdraw from the NBA Draft process while maintaining his collegiate eligibility. Lawal, who transferred from VCU and hails from London, England, started 30 games last season, averaging 12 points, seven rebounds, and shooting 56% from the field.
Head coach Mike Young praised Lawal’s mature approach to the draft process, stating, “He approached the draft process the right way — with maturity, determination and an eagerness to grow. The feedback he received will only elevate his game, and we’re thrilled about what’s ahead for him and for our program.”
Lawal expressed gratitude for the opportunity to explore the draft, noting that the experience provided clarity on areas for improvement, such as refining his all-around game and enhancing his defensive capabilities.
His return bolsters a Virginia Tech roster that includes returning players Jaden Schutt, Tyler Johnson, and Ben Hammond, as well as incoming transfers Izaiah Pasha, Jailen Bedford, Amani … , and a four-man freshman class … The Hokies are also in contention for elite international prospect … , who could be a top-40 NBA draft pick if he chooses to play college basketball.
Lawal’s decision to return is a significant boost for the Hokies, especially after a challenging 2024–25 season that ended with a 13–19 record and no postseason appearance. With Lawal’s leadership and the infusion of new talent, Virginia Tech aims for a stronger performance in the upcoming season.
